Shauna joined the club in 2019/20, having previously played tier 3 football for Bradford and Huddersfield. She made her debut in a 1-0 home win against Liverpool Feds, and quality defensive performances have followed ever since. Shauna has played most of her football as a centre half over recent years, her ability to read the game is excellent and she never shies away from a tackle. She also loves to get forward and join in the attack when the opportunity arises. Shauna is one of the most dependable players in our squad, she’s ever-present and always gives her all.
When asked about what Shauna brings to the side, First Team Manager Rob Mitchell said; “She gives everything, a never say-die attitude. She’s someone I can rely on, is very adaptable and always gives one hundred percent.”
Since joining the club, Shauna’s leadership qualities have shone through and at the beginning of the 2022/23 season, she was announced as our captain. She says; “It’s an honour to captain this team and it’s something I’m really proud of. When Rob asked me last year it was a no-brainer, I’ve loved every minute here and to be captain of such an amazing team it really is something special.”
Our skipper started her footballing journey as a child at her local side, Beeston Juniors, where she was the only girl. It’s clear her brothers and her dad have played a big role in shaping her as a person and as a player, she credits the advice given by them to her success. Shauna also cites our Assistant Manager Lee Harrison as her footballing inspiration – she labelled him her “Football Dad”, and Halifax FC is the third club she’s worked with him at!
Away from football, Shauna is an engineer at Openreach in a job where she is required to climb up telegraph poles to install/fix people’s internet. When she’s not working she loves to spend time with her friends and family – as well as trying to stay as fit as possible!
The best football memory Shauna has is beating Charlton Athletic; a full-time, professional team from the Championship in the 4th round of the FA Cup. The match was full of drama, with Shauna’s team coming back from 3-0 down with 20 minutes to go to draw level at 3-3 at full time. The game eventually went to penalties, with Shauna’s team taking a famous victory with jubilant celebrations involving a huge team bundle!
