Match Preview: Leeds United Vs Halifax FC Women

Halifax FC Women will play Leeds United on Sunday afternoon, in the second round of the FAWNL cup. The fixture will be their fourth fixture in the competition after winning the preliminary rounds of the cup against FC United of Manchester, Sporting Khalsa and Stoke City.

Halifax manager Rob Mitchell gave his thoughts ahead of the game:

“Leeds are just another team we’ve got to come up against and hopefully we can have the right attitude”.

“We’re going into a West Yorkshire Derby against a Leeds side who are flying in the division below”.

Rob also mentioned his desire to win the FAWNL cup.

“We’ve got this far, we want to go all the way”.

Rob Mitchell understands how important it is for the players and the club to win silverware this season and his words show that the players are behind him all the way. It would be a huge achievement for the club having rebranded from Brighouse Town this season.

Halifax FC Women are welcomed to Garforth on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Burnley in the Northern Premier Division. The game was even in many areas, but the quality of some of the Burnley players saw them edge past Halifax, specifically Aimee Kelly, who scored a brace to guide her team to the three points.

Handshakes ahead of the game against Burnley

Leeds United welcome Halifax with confidence, after beating Chester 7-1 to book their place into the FA cup first round proper. Leeds will look to carry this emphatic win into the game on Sunday.

Halifax FC Women were hard at work in training on Tuesday, preparing for a fierce West Yorkshire derby. They will be looking to push as far as they can into the FAWNL cup. Halifax have just added two players to their squad who featured in first team training. Meg Boydell and Courtney Willis joined Halifax from Burnley, two statement signings to bolster their lineup.

Kick off at the Bannister Prentice Community stadium will be at 2pm as both teams prepare for an exciting Yorkshire Derby.
