Halifax FC Women’s Move to Bradford’s Myra Shay: A New Chapter for Diversity, Community, and Growth
Halifax FC Women are set to embark on a transformative journey by relocating their home games to the newly redeveloped Myra Shay facility in Bradford after agreeing a deal with Bradford Council. This strategic move not only provides the club with state-of-the-art amenities but also allows the club to make a significant impact on one of the UK’s most diverse urban communities.
The Myra Shay redevelopment, backed by a £2 million investment from the Football Foundation and Bradford Council, is poised to elevate the club’s infrastructure. The upgraded facility will feature a 3G all-weather pitch, floodlights, a 100-seat stand, a 100-person standing terrace, and expanded parking—bringing the venue up to FA standards .
We are excited to work alongside the Karmand Centre who will manage the facility as we look to engage with the local community. Bradford, renowned for its rich cultural tapestry, boasts a significant South Asian population. By establishing our base in this diverse location, Halifax FC Women have the opportunity to engage with communities that have historically been underrepresented in women’s football. This move resonates with broader initiatives to promote inclusivity in sports, especially following the inspiring successes of the Lionesses in recent years. By working with the Karmand Centre and the other clubs based at the facility we hope to create a hub of positivity and a place for people to come and be part of our journey.
Our transition to Bradford’s Myra Shay facility marks a significant milestone in the club’s evolution. By embracing a modern venue in a diverse and dynamic city, the club is poised to enhance its competitive edge, foster inclusivity, and deepen community ties. This move exemplifies how strategic decisions in sports can drive broader social benefits, uniting people through shared passion and purpose.
Head Coach Rob Mitchell gave us his thoughts on the move:
“I’m delighted to finally have a place that we can call home and have the opportunity to welcome our fans to such an amazing and vibrant facility. I’m hoping we can work with the community to really embed ourselves within the BD3 family and help contribute to sustained growth and progress. I’ve met a number of the local residents recently along with the staff at the Karmand Centre, and we want to continue to build relationships and grow our friendship further. I just want to say a massive thank you to the Council for helping us secure Myra Shay and also to our friends at both Albion Sports and Route One Rovers for working with us. I hope we can support each other on and off the pitch in the coming months so that all three teams can be successful in 2025/26!”
“This is an exciting opportunity and really aligned with our core beliefs and values of family and togetherness which was something that really drew us to this particular community and ground.”
“Ultimately it’s always hard being Halifax and playing in Bradford, but we don’t look at problems, we find solutions and make it work, we have a group of people who make things happen and with the support from the local community and beyond, we can make this a real success for everyone ahead of a new season!”
We look forward to welcoming fans both old and new to our new home very soon!
