Halifax FC Women were formed in 2013 as Brighouse Town Ladies. Current manager Rob Mitchell, helped set the club up and guided the club from tier 6 to tier 3 where they play in the FA Womens National League Northern Premier Division.

In the first season ‘Town’ managed to complete an unbeaten season winning the NERWFL Southern Division. This was followed up by a runners-up spot behind Hull City after in the NERWFL Premier Division alongside lifting the League Cup.

The team went one better the following season, Halifax would lift the title after another unbeaten season. The team would also reach the final of the West Riding County Cup eventually losing out to then tier 3 side Bradford City.

FA Cup runs to the third and fourth rounds followed with glamour ties against WSL sides Sunderland and Everton, giving the club a taste of what could be with the club now competing in the FA Womens National League Northern Division One alongside the likes of Newcastle United, Leeds United and Burnley.

The next two seasons saw consecutive second place finishes to Hull City and then Burnley which saw the club establish themselves as one of the stronger teams in the league.

Following the COVID pandemic the FA announced that promotion would be awarded to any club who could submit a long term development plan as well as other criteria relating to sporting merit. The club was successful and was awarded promotion and would therefore compete in the FA Womens National League Northern Premier Division for the first time in their history. Two County Cup wins in successive seasons as well as a very respectable 7th place finish was followed up by a 5th place finish the following season. 

In the summer of 2023, the club rebranded as Halifax FC Women and became completely independent and self funded. A strong second half of the 2023/24 season saw wins against Wolves and Nottingham Forest and a point against Champions Newcastle United helping the club finish in a respectable 6th place. The club would end the season by winning another County Cup with victory over Leeds Mods.
