Halifax FC Women continued their unbeaten run this season, with a 2-1 win against Liverpool Feds. The game was won in the 89th minute after Lucy Sowerby hit home to secure yet another 3 points against a tough opposition.
The game was lively from the start with both teams battling and lots of tackles flying in to win the ball. The Eagles were looking to impose themselves onto the feds early on into the games. But Liverpool Feds were particularly neat with their passes, finding gaps in the midfield to push forward effectively.
The Feds struck first through Seagraves, a ball on the wing was cut back into the middle of the box where Seagraves found the space and time to place a shot into the top left corner with a left footed shot, a very composed and accurate finish. 29 minutes played. Halifax attempted to answer back straight away with a free kick won by Ramsden, but is unfortunately deflected away for a goal kick.
Halifax did answer back shortly after however, as Cass found herself through on goal after a Sublime pass, her shot was placed early, but beautifully into the bottom left corner with a right footed shot after the keeper ran out of her net to meet her. 40 minutes into the game, an important goal for Halifax just before half time.
The second half started even more lively than the first, Georgia Stevens had her shot tipped over the bar merely seconds after kick off and a volley from Kemp just goes over after 48 minutes of play.
There were a few moments of defensive excellence from Dean and skipper, Legge to deny some promising attacks from the feds. There were also some very important blocks from shots at goal. Flaherty also showed her class with some excellent saves to keep Halifax in the game.
Halifax struck again, very late into the game, through Lucy Sowerby after Drew Greene charged down the right wing, playing a tidy pass into Sowerby who smashed it into the top right corner with a right footed shot at very close range to make it 2-1 to Halifax in the 89th minute, going on to win the game. Another late goal to seal another win in the league to make it 2 wins and 1 draw in the league. A very impressive start.
Rob Mitchell gave us his thoughts on the match after the game:
