FAWNL Match Preview
halifax v liverpool feds 16/11/25

The FA WNL Northern Premier Division returns this weekend as Halifax host Liverpool Feds in what promises to be an enticing fixture.

Halifax will be aiming to build some momentum following their progression in the FA WNL Plate last weekend, where they beat Birmingham City’s academy 3-1 to book their place in the quarter-finals. In previous league action, their encounters with Middlesbrough and unbeaten Wolves were both hard-fought, with manager Rob Mitchell highlighting the team’s “star individual performances and collective effort”. Despite a positive performance, Halifax were punished by early goals against Wolves and a Lauren Robson brace in their trip to Boro, leaving them with no points from both fixtures. That makes this weekend’s clash with Liverpool Feds all the more significant as Halifax look to build on promising performances and continue to progress in the Northern Premier Division.

Liverpool Feds have endured an inconsistent spell of league form and they currently sit eighth in the table, having gained just one point from their last four league matches. They enjoyed a strong run in the FA WNL Cup this season but were knocked out of the competition by Middlesbrough last weekend after a late equaliser from substitute Chloe Fisher sent the tie into extra-time. Feds couldn’t find the difference in extra time and a determined Boro regained the lead to advance into the quarter-finals. Prior to this, Feds’ league form has suffered a recent dip, but the side have still succeeded in victories against Sporting Khalsa, Hull City, and Loughborough Lightning in their 2025/26 campaign.

The sides last met at the end of last season, when Feds came from behind to seal a 2-1 win. The reverse fixture had much the same outcome, with Feds once again turning the game around to take all three points.
