Halifax FC Women beat Stoke City 2-0 in a solid game by the Eagles and an Ellie White Brace to secure their progression into the next round of the FAWNL Cup.
Halifax FC Women continued their unbeaten run this season, with a 2-0 win against Stoke City. The game was won courtesy of an Ellie White brace after an impressive performance.
Halifax was on top from the start of the game, pressing forward in the first 5 minutes of the game with neat, accurate passing and a couple of early chances.
The Eagles struck first early on into the game with a goal from Ellie White, who found the ball inside of the box and fired home with her right foot into the bottom left corner, capitalising on Stoke’s poor defending, her vigilance earned her team the first goal of the game after just 5 minutes. Halifax did not let up though, as Darcie Greene made a darting run on the right wing where she was fouled, giving Halifax a free kick in a dangerous area. The free kick was headed away from danger.
In the 26th minute, Halifax had a chance to make it 2-0 as Darcie Greene’s quick feet found herself into the box when she was tripped by a Stoke player, winning a penalty for the Eagles. The penalty was converted by Ellie White, the keeper guessed the right way but the strike was too far from her reach.
Half time came and Halifax found themselves 2-0 up and in a very strong position heading into the second half, they had dominated Stoke in most parts of the game.
The second half saw no goals, and Halifax did not carry their first half energy into the second half. However, The Eagles still impressed, with neat passes and cunning defending by Cass, Legge, Dean and Kemp who snuffed out any danger. They held on to win the game 2-0 much to the elation of the Halifax crowd and bench.
The win on Sunday meant that Halifax had extended their unbeaten run to 6 games this season, an incredible start for the Eagles.
Rob Mitchell gave his thoughts after the game:
“The players executed the game plan brilliantly”.
“I think we were more than good value for the win today”.
Georgia Stevens also gave her thoughts on the game:
” I think for us, a clean sheet is massive”.
