Match Report: Stourbridge 1 - 5 Halifax FC Women

Halifax earned themselves an important three points after a dominative performance away from home on Sunday afternoon, making it four wins in a row in all competitions. 

Halifax pushed onto Stourbridge the moment the whistle blew, and within a matter of two minutes, won a penalty. The penalty was put away beautifully by Ellie White, a player in stunning form recently. 0-1 after 3 minutes.

Stourbridge responded positively, putting some pressure on Halifax, but couldn’t find the goal.

Halifax struck again in the 18th minute, through Monique Watson. A ball from Sowerby was cleared only to find Watson, who calmly finished past the keeper who was out of position. 0-2.

Only three minutes later, Halifax scored again, this time through Britt Sanderson, another player who has impressed recently. A fantastic ball played by Maddie Oliver finds Sowerby who laid the ball off to Sanderson, slotting it into the bottom corner. 0-3 after 21 minutes, a brilliant start from Halifax.

Stourbridge hit back in the 30th minute, with an incredible move by Jess Lowe, who cut inside from the right to fire in a shot from distance. 1-3 

Halifax scored an important goal in the 44th minute, just before half time to extend their advantage even further, it was Sowerby who lifted the ball over the keeper to make it 1-4.

Half Time: Stourbridge 1 – 4 Halifax

The second half saw continued pressure and domination from the Eagles, with Sanderson scoring again to put the game seemingly out of reach from the hosts. 1-5 after 48 minutes played.

Lucy Sowerby had a particularly impressive performance, creating chance after chance for the Eagles, earning her a well deserved player of the match award. 

The rest of the game was under the control of Halifax, who undeniably had the better chances, but Stourbridge kept their attacks coming, which were snuffed out by the resilient Halifax defenders.

The full time whistle blew an end to an emphatic perfomance by Halifax, who ultimately controlled most parts of the game. This was a valuable result for the Eagles, making the games in hand they have count as they search to climb their way up the league.
