Halifax FC Women was defeated by the table toppers Wolves at the SEAH stadium on Sunday 6-0.
Wolves started attacking from the very start, securing two goals in the opening ten minutes. In the 21st minute, a long corner from Wolves was deflected by Halifax goalkeeper Jamie-Lee Bamford. However, they recovered quickly and attempted a shot on target, which Bamford safely caught again.
Halifax’s Charlotte Salisbury-Williams showcased a good defensive skill in the 31st minute, stepping up when Bamford failed to secure a long shot from Wolves. She managed to clear the ball before two Wolves players nearby could gain control.
Wolves attempted a corner kick which went right on target , but Bamford’s quick reaction pushed the ball over the crossbar. The first half was completely dominated by the wolves, creating chances and attempted shots on target almost every single minute .
As the second half kicked off, Wolves continued to attack, with Bamford making two saves in the opening minutes. In the 50th minute, Halifax received an opportunity to score with a freekick, but unfortunately the shot hit the wall. Two minutes later, Halifax’s Minnie Wilson had a chance through a freekick but went wide.
Ten minutes into the second half, Wolves earned back-to-back corner, both were saved by Bamford. However, they extended their lead to 3-0 with a comfortable goal from a corner kick in the 59th minute.
In the 71st minute, a dangerous cross from the left side into the Halifax’s box nearly resulted in another Wolves goal, but Bamford’s presence of mind saved the attempt. Halifax women tried hard to keep the post tight but in the last ten minutes their energies were drained and looked tired allowing the home team to score two more goals in the 84th and 87th minute .
Halifax will take on South Shields next Sunday at 1st Cloud Arena looking forward for must win match.
