match report
halifax 0 : 2 wolves

Halifax’s bid for points in this Sunday’s FAWNL fixture came up short due to two early goals from Wolves during a sunny afternoon at Myra Shay.

The match also marked the first appearance in Halifax FC shirts for Dolcie O’Connor and Eleanor Ashton, as both players made their debuts for the Eagles.

An early blow

Despite playing away, Wolves found their rhythm early in the game. Starting just one minute into the game, they launch an attack on the left after a quick switch of play in the midfield, which eventually leads to a shot that’s saved by our goalkeeper, Maddie Crosbie. After rounds of corner following the attack, the away team found the back of the net using a half overhead kick.

After an early opener, Wolves came again immediately. The 8th minute saw them double their lead with a powerful smash following a cross from the right.

The fight back from the Eagles

Encountering a disappointing start to the match, Halifax FC attempted to bring the game back. The 15th minute witnessed Holly Davenport and Dolcie O’Connor link up on the left, creating an opportunity to cross the ball into the box. Unfortunately, that dangerous cross flashed across the box. After the opponent’s goal was disallowed due to offside in the 23rd minute, the Eagles launched several attacking attempts. Holly Davenport’s shot from outside the box was high in the 27th minute.

Half time: Halifax FC 0:2 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Second half stalemate

Starting just one minute in the second half, Dolcie O’Connor, our new signing this week, showed brilliant technique as she picked the ball on the left wing, rolled the ball and dribbled past the defender before she managed to find Farah Crompton in the box, whose shot was blocked by the defender. In the 62nd minute, Emily Burke, who had just come on the pitch, played a surgical through ball to send the ball behind the opponent’s defence line, and Farah Crompton’s outside-of-the-boot shot after picking up the ball was narrowly wide. Wolves’ corners again demonstrated threats, but their headers were cleared on the goal line by Annabelle Cass and Anna Phillips in the 82nd and 87th minutes, respectively. Both teams created considerable scoring chances, but no goal was scored during the second half.
