SUMMER ARRIVES EARLY!

Halifax FC Women are excited to announce the arrival of Summer Horner who joins us after a spell at Manchester City.

Summer joins the club after a coming through the ranks at Manchester City from the age of 9. This represents a first move into senior open age Women’s football for the talented youngster as she looks to continue her footballing development.

Manager Rob Mitchell said on his first summer signing:

“I’m delighted to be finally working with Summer again after previously having her in our U10s all those years ago. I always knew she’d do well in the game, she was head and shoulders above the rest in that team and rightly got the opportunity to represent one of the biggest clubs in the world. The experiences she’s gained will be invaluable, she’s a driven, motivated and humble individual who I can’t wait to give an open age debut to.”

“It shows the commitment we have to giving talented young players an opportunity and Summer is another example of that.”

“It will take time for her to adjust to adult football, but I know one thing, she won’t let, me, the club or her team mates down.”

We spoke with Summer to get her thoughts on the move:

Congratulations on the move, how do you feel now the move is all confirmed?

“Good thankyou. I feel positive for the season to come as it brings a challenge to win, improve and bond with a new team. The opportunity has come at the right time and I cannot wait for the season to start.”

You’ve worked with Rob previously in the junior teams, how does it feel to link up again?

“I started with Rob at the age of 8 and it’s good to be back with him as I respect and value him as a coach and equally as a person.”

You’ve been at Manchester City, how has your time there developed you both as a player and as a person?

“I’ve been at City since I was 9 years old and I’ve been privileged with accessing amazing facilities to train and play. City have challenged me as a person due to the high standards and responsibilities provided which I hope to take with me to Halifax.”

Tell us a bit more about yourself, what kind of player are you and what will you bring to the team?

“I’m currently doing my GCSE’s and will continue doing A Levels in Business, Sport and Geography.”

“I play as a midfielder who equally works hard when attaching and defending. I am always wanting to improve and will take on any advice given from coaches and my fellow players.”

What are your short term aims for next season and longer term in your career?

“The aim for this season is to get a feel for open age football as the play style is different and therefore I have to learn to adapt. I always wish to get better at everything whether that is on or off the pitch.”

Good luck Summer and we can’t wait to see you in the Halifax blue!
