welcome anna phillips!

We are delighted to welcome Anna Phillips to the club ahead of the start of the 2025/26 season!

The talented defender joins having spent the last 4 years over in the US on a scholarship programme at the University of Oregon. Prior to her move to the US she was a promising prospect in Manchester City’s development squad. Anna has experience representing England at the Under 17s European Championships and won the FA Youth Cup whilst with Manchester City.

We caught up with our newest defender this week to get her thoughts on the move:

Welcome to Halifax Anna, how does it feel to link up with Rob Mitchell and the rest of the girls ahead of the new season?

“I am really excited and raring to go! Having spoken with Rob over the past few weeks he has made it very clear that as a squad we are setting our sights high and I can’t wait!”

“The girls have been so welcoming to me and I already feel part of something special.”

You’ve trained with us for a few sessions now, how have you settled in and what are your thoughts on the setup at the club?

“The training has been great and we have all round support which is getting us ready for the season. The set up is excellent and I already feel like we are in this together and have the full backing of everyone.”

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your footballing journey up to now?

“I started training with an all girls club in Bolton when I was about 7 and then got picked up by Manchester City at under 14’s. I went through to the development squad before I opted to go out to University in the US to get a different experience.”

Are you looking forward to the season and what are your aims both personally and for the team?

“Without doubt I am looking forward to getting the season started, as I said before there is a real buzz around the club! Personally, I want to be the best player I can be to help the team succeed.”

Rob Mitchell gave us his words on his latest recruit:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be working with Anna this season, she’s an unbelievable player and at just 22 she can become whatever she wants to be. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to get the deal done and now she’s in, I can’t wait to see her in action!”

“Aside from football, she’s another excellent person who is highly driven and motivated to progress and succeed in the game, she is very professional and is a joy to have in the building.”

“I think our system really suits her as a player and with the other girls we already have in and are working towards bringing in, the squad is really shaping up nicely!”
